A nostalgic reminder of the good old days. Pre the dreaded COVID lockdown, where we were free as birds. Well, free enough to all squeeze up together at a Queen concert. When will concerts come back? Today we chat about the concert, check out some footage, and touch on Queen sync licences.

You’ll find the full transcript below:

Bruce:

This, this is what we’re missing, big concerts and loud music, and one of the greatest bands of all time, wish we could be there again. It seems so long ago, but it was actually less than three months ago that we went to this Queen concert. We finally found time in lockdown to do the edit and post the video blog. It’s a bit of a music review and a bit of footage from the iPhone. This has always been one of the great joys of working on the Border of Music and Advertising, being able to go to concerts, we really do miss it. Anyway, that’s the intro. I’ll hand over to Bruce and Clare now.

Big news is that last night we went and saw Queen perform, what a band. I read once, I can’t remember exactly where, that Queen are the most synced artists of all time. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but their songs, their hits are so sync friendly because they’re happy, upbeat, danceable, all the things we normally get asked for. It’s not surprising we’ve done so many music syncs for them.

Went to Queen last night, what did you think of Queen?

Clare:

Fantastic. So much material, so many good songs.

Bruce:

What was your favourite song?

Clare:

“We Will Rock You”.

Bruce:

“We Will Rock You”, of course, we did a big sync license for that. I thought it was actually a bit slow at the start. In fact, I thought it was boring at the start because the sound was low, there’d been some rain, the crowd was quiet, and they played songs I didn’t even know, but it certainly picked up. I think the one that really got me going was the very politically incorrect, Fat Bottomed Girls, got up and danced to that. But I thought the absolute highlight of the show was when they did Led Zeppelin, “Whole Lotta Love”.

Clare:

That was a wonderful surprise, loved that.

Bruce:

And you’ve got Adam Lambert channelling Robert Plant.

Clare:

Yep.

Bruce:

And Brian May channelling Jimmy Page, it was just wonderful.

(Singing)

Adam Lambert was good, wasn’t he?

Clare:

He’s fantastic, what a voice.

Bruce:

I thought he was sensational. I mean, we’d love to see Freddy, we all love Freddy, but he was…

So let’s check him out belting out “Break Free”, and a little Brian May solo thrown in.

(Singing)

We’ve done quite a few Queen music licenses over the years. We did, “I Want to Break Free” for Hyundai. We did, “You’re My Best Friend” for Toyota Corolla a while ago. “Don’t Stop Me Now” for an Australian beer brand called Hahn. But the absolute highlight was last year.

Clare:

That was for Cannon.

Bruce:

In China.

(Singing)

It’s a great ad, you can see the whole thing on our website. Now let’s have a quick look at a snippet of the concert version.

(Singing)

Anyway, it was a fabulous concert. It absolutely bucketed down with rain, they had to postpone the start of it and then it didn’t rain at all when the concert was on, thank goodness. It was really good, good fun.

Clare:

Not a drop, and it was so warm, it was a beautiful sunny Australian evening.

Bruce:

And it’s right up there with one of the best concerts we’ve ever been to. Right up there with the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and a few others.

Clare:

Santana.

Bruce:

Imagine Dragons, Santana. Been to a few concerts, this is one of the benefits of Life on the Border. Anyway, that’s it for now. See you later.

Clare:

If you like it, share it.

Bruce:

See you later again.

Clare:

Yeah, see ya.

Bruce:

And what about you? Did you go to the Queen concert? Got anything to say about it? Was it great? Was it the best concert you’ve ever been to in your whole goddamn life? If you’ve actually got something to say about it, leave me a comment. Anyway, see you later again.
